Holidays in Cape Town
The Holidays in Cape Town may trade snow for sun, but I never said that was a bad thing. In fact, it can make for the best festive season you've had in ages!
The Holidays in Cape Town may trade snow for sun, but I never said that was a bad thing.
The holidays in Cape Town are a twist on the traditional idea of a holiday season. Why you ask? Because it's summer this time of year in Cape Town. If you haven't ever traded in your skis for your bikini or swim trunks, then you'll be in for an agreeable surprise.
Come take a trip and work on your tan lines instead of standing in lines at one of the traditional holiday spots. The holidays in Cape Town are the best way to experience South Africa. If you can try to hang around for New Years as the city puts on one of the world's best celebrations.
Carols by Candlelight- Located in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens will get you moving and shaking into the holiday spirit in Cape Town. My advice is to take yourself a picnic blanket, some tasty treats and bottle of world famous South African wine. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy the songs on the green grassy bank in the towering shadow of Table Mountain.
Hit the beach- The holidays in Cape Town are also summer, so you better get some time in on a beach. Very few beaches in Cape Town are rocky. In fact most are beautiful white sand, so white they hurt your eyes, be sure to bring your shades.
My favorite is Dolphin Beach. It has less crowds but lacking none of the amenities that any good beach should have. Be careful swimming here because there are no lifeguards on duty. This beach is a perfect place to sneak away from the city for some much need rest. Don't forget your sun block or you'll end up like a lobster like I did.
Visit the Castle of Good Hope- Built in 1666 it is the oldest building in South Africa. This massive pentagonal fortification has seen it all. If you spend the day here you'll have a better understanding of Cape Town.
Eat your holiday dinner or lunch by the pool- Wherever you stay your hotel will have set splendid holiday food for you and your family. Why not put a Cape Town twist on it and enjoy your holiday in true South African style by the pool. It's the best way to combine your traditions with the holiday in Cape Town. It may feel strange at first, but it really is one the best ways to spend the holidays. My family and I have never been as relaxed after opening presents and then taking a dip in the pool.
Spend New Years on the top of Table Mountain- The before mentioned Table Mountain loams large over Cape Town. Its jaw dropping beauty is the first thing you notice as you arrive in town. You can't find a better New Years experience than the summit of Table Mountain. Trust me, you won't miss any of the fireworks because you'll be able to see them all happening below. Catch a cable car up to the top and celebrate the New Year in style.
