The Cape Town Minstrels Carnival is held in celebration of kicking off the New Year. The festivities are attended by thousands of people, creating a celebration event not to be missed. Known as Cape Town’s “longest-running street party” the Cape Town Minstrels Carnival is celebrated on the only day in history that slaves were given off from work.

The local community is known to dress up as minstrels and dance and sing their way through the walking parade. The Cape Town Minstrels Carnival Parade is held beginning at Zonnebloem (District Six) and adventuring through the center of the city.
