The Discovery Cape Times Big Walk
Consisting of 10 different distance walks to choose from, the timed races featured in The Discovery Cape Times Big Walk have become a favorite way to explore the city, get some exercise, and donate to charity at the same time.
The Discovery Cape Times Big Walk began in 1903 when a long distance walking race was created and gained instant popularity. Now, participation takes more emphasis during the Big Walk than the racing aspect does. Travelers, locals, young and old gather to explore the city, get some exercise, and help out by giving back to the Big Walk charity.
Whether you love to walk and run, or you would rather go on an easy stroll, the Big Walk features 10 routes from which to choose. Timed 80 km, 50 km, 30 km, 25 km, 20 km, and untimed 13 km, 12 km, 11 km, 10 km and 5 km options are offered. Each route begins at a different point in the Cape Peninsula and end at Rhodes High School in Mowbray.
Not only will the Big Walk be a time for fun and people meeting and greeting but participants will be helping the Steenberg Foundation and Red Cross Society, which are the Big Walk's main benefactors this year. The event will take place on Sunday, November 13.
