The Hermanus Whale Festival 2011
Every year, thousands of people flock to the Walker Bay to attend the Hermanus Whale Festival, the only enviro-arts festival in South Africa, and host to the most incredible shore-based whale watching in the world. The festival is a must for all who want the opportunity to see Southern Right whales.
The Hermanus Whale Festival is held annually to celebrate the return of the Southern Right whales to the bay and enjoy the amazing display of nature. Celebrating 20 years, the festival has grown to a weeklong event that includes art, educational displays, and performances in music, comedy, cabaret and African rhythms every night during the Festival.
Every year, participants enjoy browsing vendors and eating in the market square while taking a break from the beautiful cliff side views of the ocean and being closer than they may ever get to the magnificent whales.
The 2011 event will expand to include several half marathons, bike races, a fashion show and a harbor-to-harbor swim. Last year, over 130,000 people attended the event, and this year it promises to draw even more with the addition of the new activities.
Less about activism and more about appreciating nature and having a wonderful time, the Hermanus Whale Festival has events scheduled to entertain people of all ages.
